- There are many possible causes of a hormonal imbalance. Causes differ depending on which hormones or glands are affected. Common causes of hormonal imbalance include:
- hormone therapy
- medications
- cancer treatments such as chemotherapy
- tumors, whether cancerous or benign
- pituitary tumors
- eating disorders
- stress
Diagnosis of Hormone Imbalance
- Diagnosis can be made during clinical examination supported with the client’s history. Laboratory diagnosis can be recommended based on clients history to the physician.
- Some laboratory tests that could be requested include Pelvic or transvaginal ultrasound scan to rule out polycystic ovarian syndrome, fibroid, cyst and endometriosis. Hormone assay may be requested to assess the level of hormones such as Luteinizing hormone (LH) , Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) , Prolactin (PL) , Estrogen, Progesterone, etc.
